It is an American fast food chain founded by Jerry Morrell in 1986, and is headquartered in Lorton, Virginia. The first Five Guys location opens in Arlington, Virginia. 1986 - 2001: Five Guys opened five locations throughout the greater metropolitan area and perfected their burger-making business...and began building what looked like the next denomination. 2002: Five Guys decided that Central Capital area residents shouldn't be the only ones testing burgers and starting franchises in Virginia and Maryland. 2003: Five Guys sell off its concession lands within 18 months and begin opening up the rest of the country for franchise rights. 2003-present: Five Guys has expanded to over 1,000 locations in over 47 states and 6 Canadian provinces
