Urth Café was born out of a dream shared by Gila and Shalom Berkman 25 years ago, until 1989 when they met a passionate coffee grower named "George" on an organic coffee farm in Peru. The Berkmans were captivated by George's letter. They discovered many of the destructive practices used to produce coffee, which made it the most chemically treated product in the world. With genuine, non-GMO coffee trees so scarce, the Berkmans decided to become a pioneer in the health coffee business. After years of learning and exploring coffee roasting and grinding methods, they opened their first authentic, organic coffee company, Earth Café. To combine the oldest etymology of the word "earth" with "coffee" with its Italian drawing. They want this name to embody the earth's natural richness and organic, non-GMO coffee. They also imported the finest hand-picked organic teas, adding the phrase "Exclusively Organic Coffees & Fine Teas", translated as "the finest organic tea and coffee", to the "Earth Café" logo. Shalom and Gila realize their dream of truly becoming a pioneer in the "organic food revolution".
